Reggae band UB40 with founding members Ali Campbell, and Astro and Mickey Virtue will perform Feb. 16 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s A&B Amphitheater and Yokouchi Pavilion.
Tickets for MACC members go on sale at 10 a.m. today. The general public may begin purchasing tickets Oct. 19.
The group has played on Maui before. It has produced gold and platinum albums; four No. 1 worldwide hits, selling more than 70 million units; and Grammy nominations.
UB40’s most recent album, its 19th studio album, is “A Real Labour of Love,” released earlier this year. It reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and entered the Billboard Reggae Albums chart at No. 1.
Formed in 1979 in Birmingham, England, the band combined a diverse set of influences to put a fresh slant on Jamaican reggae, the MACC news release said. After encouragement from Chrissie Hynde, who offered them support slots with her chart-topping band, the Pretenders, the band members recorded their independently released debut album, “Signing Off,” which became an unexpected No. 2 album and started them on their own course.
The group’s top-10 hits include “Red Red Wine,” “(I Can’t Help) Falling in Love With You” and “I Got You Babe.”
The concert starts at 5:30 p.m. Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
Tickets are $49 for general admission and $149 for VIP for MACC members from Friday to Oct. 18.
Public general admission tickets go on sale Oct. 19. They are $59 each and with VIP $159.
Tickets purchased on the day of the concert will be $10 more.
VIP ticket holders receive front-of-stage viewing access, dedicated beverage service areas, access to the Yokouchi Pavilion restrooms and seating areas. VIP areas will be available for all ages.
For tickets, call (808) 242-SHOW (7469) or visit the MACC Box Office, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Tickets also may be purchased online at MauiArts.org.
